Civic Assurance is an insurance company owned by Local Government that is dedicated to serving the needs of Local Government. Civic Assurance offers councils and CCOs (Council Controlled Organisations) the following classes of insurance business:

Civic Assurance's claims paying ability is rated B++ with negative outlook by AM Best. Shown below are the top five categories of AM Best’s Ratings Table (see www.ambest.com/ratings/guide.pdf for more details). AM Best is a rating agency approved by the Registrar of Companies.

Civic is also the promoter and administrator of SuperEasy and SuperEasy KiwiSaver Superannuation Scheme, the Administration Manager for LAPP, the Fund Manager for Riskpool, a 25% shareholder in Local Government Online Ltd, and the owner and property manager of Civic Assurance House (a nine-storey building on Lambton Quay in Wellington).

The effect of the Christchurch earthquake claims has seen a fall in Civic's net equity of $19.5 million as at 30 June 2010 to $10.6 million on 30 June 2011. Consequently the Civic Board is considering a capital raising along the lines of a one-for-one rights issue at 90 cents per share.
